Be a Fountain, Not a Dream

In life, we have the choice to be a fountain that gives or a dream that only takes. We can either pour out life-giving water or suck the life out of those around us. These are two very different ways to live. One brings life, joy, and blessing, while the other brings dryness, frustration, and exhaustion.

Jesus said, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'” (John 7:38) He was talking about the Holy Spirit who would come and fill his followers. When we are filled with God’s Spirit, we have an endless supply of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and truth to pour out to others. We become like a refreshing fountain on a hot summer day. We bring life and blessings to all those around us.

On the other hand, when we are not connected to the source of living water, we can become like a dream that only takes from others. We were not designed to live this way. When we live as dreams, we become dried up, empty, and exhausted on the inside. We are always looking to others to fill us up and make us feel good, but no matter how much we get, it is never enough. We become frustrated, irritable, and demanding. We suck the life out of our relationships and leave dryness and destruction in our wake.

So, let’s make the choice to be fountains today. Let’s ask God to fill us with his Spirit so we can pour out blessing, encouragement, and life to those around us. Let’s be the ones who brighten the day, not drain the life out of others. Let’s be fountains, not dreams!

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” (Isaiah 55:1) God’s invitation is always open. Let’s come to him and drink deeply. Let’s be filled with his living water and become fountains of life!
